Here's the full Who, What, Where, When, Why and How, a bit out of order ...
We miss you Jim!On December 25, 2007, Jim, the creator of this page passed away. He will be missed deeply by family, friends, and internet community. Jim's obituary. We leave these pages so that we can remind ourselves of all the good Jim as done. Java ranch honoring Jim. What SurfScranton is the leading free resource for the online community in the Scranton, Pennsylvania, area. Our mission makes up two sides of the same coin: First, we help you find anything you need in the area. Second, we help businesses, churches, temples, organizations and individuals promote themselves to the online world. And we try to have some fun in the process. All 1436 links are listed here free of charge. Some search engines and link sites charge for listings, only list web sites they built themselves, or try to make other sites buy choice spots. But we try to be as fair and democratic as possible with all the links we can find organized by category and alphabetical order. Oh, and speaking of categories ... no category on the menu will ever be empty. We get the sites first, then make up the categories, never the other way around! How We put the list together by spending countless hours scouring every search engine we could find for anything related to Scranton and surrounding towns. We've gotten some great suggestions from our viewers, too. Please send us more! After the first 50 sites, we thought we had probably found all the good stuff. After the first 100 we were sure. From there on, we were just amazed. Now with over 700 sites, we hope you are, too. The Geek Fun page has more details on how we manage all the links. Where Well, Scranton, of course. Actually I live in Clarks Summit, and the site is hosted goodness-knows-where on the web, but you know what I mean. When SurfScranton first appeared on a free web server in the summer of 1999. Now it's on its second commercial service provider. It's still growing and changing. This new page layout (1-1-2000) is a big example of how things can change. Why This all started out for two reasons. First, the WebMaster needed the web practice and it was a better topic than pictures of his cat. Second, we were interested in finding out more about the area. Now that it's up, SurfScranton has a whole new reason to live. We believe it will be a real value to the community. Visitors or residents past, present and future can find interesting things to see and do, businesses, churches and stores. Businesses can make themselves known to the population. Who SurfScranton was conceived, researched, designed and constructed by your faithful servant, the WebMaster. I use the royal "we" a lot of places because I had help, and I have friends and colleagues I can bring in to help others. I'm a computer professional with 21 years with one of those billion dollar companies that almost every kid and adult in America could identify in a second. I've been in on every leading edge technology you can think of, now including building complex, transactional web sites, and now I'm called a Software Architect. I don't splash my name and address around the site to spare my family any phone calls that they won't understand. But if you need the personal touch, e-mail me at SurfScranton and I'll get back to you. |
